Why is Moorfields Eye Charity running a Christmas raffle?

The raffle is a fun and engaging way to both raise vital funds, and give back to our supporters. 100% of the profits from the lottery go to Moorfields Eye Charity.

Can you guarantee the raffle is fair?

Yes, every ticket bought has an equal chance of winning, and the winning numbers are drawn at random using a certified random number generator.

How old must I be to enter?

You must be aged 18 or over to enter the raffle.

What prizes can I win?

Prizes are issued as follows:

  • First Prize – £5,000
  • Second Prize – £750
  • Third Prize – £125 (x10)
  • Early Bird Prize – £125 Marks & Spencer voucher

What are the odds of winning a prize?

Based on the 2023 raffle, the likelihood of winning a prize is 1 in 3,184 for each ticket purchased.

How do I buy tickets?

To enter the raffle by purchasing your tickets online, just click the “enter now” button at the top of this page and complete the online form.

You can purchase tickets online using your debit card, and make an optional donation if you wish.

If you’d prefer to buy your tickets by post, you can request your book of tickets by calling our raffle hotline on 0370 085 3799.

Winning tickets will be selected randomly on 18 December 2024, and our lucky winners will be contacted shortly after.

How many tickets can I buy?

You can buy any number of tickets for yourself, up to a maximum of 72.

Can I get extra ticket books?

Yes - If you'd like to request more books of tickets please contact us on 0370 085 3799.

How will I know if I win?

The winner of our early bird prize will be contacted in writing.

We will call all our prize winners on 18 December, and confirm their win in writing soon after.

A list of all winners will be posted on our website shortly after the draw.

How are the raffle proceeds spent?

Our 2020 Christmas raffle draw took place on 18 December 2020. The below breaks down how proceeds were spent:

  • Percentage of proceeds spent on prizes: 9.16%
  • Percentage of proceeds spent on expenses, such as promoting and running the lottery: 26.21%
  • Percentage of proceeds that support the charity's work: 64.63%

Are my tickets eligible for GiftAid?

No, the money collected through sale of entries to lottery draws and raffles does not qualify for Gift Aid as it is a payment for your raffle number.

However, if you give us a goodwill donation on top of the raffle tickets, we can claim Gift Aid on just the donation. If you are eligible for and complete the Gift Aid information on your entry form we can claim Gift Aid on your behalf. Please read the declaration regarding Gift Aid carefully to ensure you are eligible.

What happens if I buy a ticket after the closing date?

Any monies raised after this date will be counted as a donation to Moorfields Eye Charity, but cannot be entered into the raffle draw.

What is responsible gambling?

Responsible gambling means staying in control of how much time and money we spend on gambling. Responsible gambling means not spending more money or time than we can reasonably afford on gambling activities, keeping in mind all our other responsibilities in life.

I need some advice on problem gambling. Who can help?

How can I make a complaint?

If you have any concerns, please get in touch with us on our raffle hotline, 0370 085 3799, and we will endeavour to answer any queries you may have.

Is the raffle legal?

Yes, we operate in compliance with all Gambling Commission (the UK regulatory body concerned with lotteries) requirements and the lottery is administered by a certified External Lottery Manager. For further information please see our RULES page.
